THE COMPANY

Our Client is a global procurement and supply organization for hard goods, furniture and decorative building materials. The company has over 80 customers in 26 countries that it supports through a network of 11 sales offices in Europe, Australia, South Africa, Japan and Brazil and 13 procurement offices located in Asia and Eastern Europe with the largest being in China, Vietnam, Indonesia, Poland and India. The head office is located in Singapore. Its sourcing network is built on information technology that allows several sellers to compete for the same business, establishing the most competitive global price for a defined product. Worldwide, it employs more than 150 staff with its FOB sourcing volume averaging approximately US$ 140 million over the past five years.

The company’s clients are the leading retailers/distributors in Northern Europe and Australia as well as e-tailers. Its services include range design and development, production enhancements, procurement and quality assurance. It is well known for providing fashionable, good quality products at reasonable price points that sell well within the stores of its mass-market retail customers. The company has served retail clients in the United States for more than ten years.

It has tremendous potential within its current markets as well as the possibility of further geographical expansion through the cross selling of existing developed product lines through the up and running infrastructure that could easily be expanded.

THE POSITION - Chief Financial Officer

The Role

The CEO/Board of Directors is seeking a CFO who can partner with the CEO to drive the company forward to a higher level of growth and development.

Reporting to the Chief Executive and working closely with the Board, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will have a strong commercial background, and will develop and implement its financial strategy in line with its vision and objectives.

The CFO will have functional responsibility for its ongoing financial management, this will include ensuring that revenue opportunities are exploited, suitable commercial arrangements are in place, capital is appropriately allocated, and all elements of the cost base are managed as tightly and effectively as possible. The CFO will also have overall responsibility for delivering its statutory requirements, dealing with issues relating to its different legal entities, and managing relationships with its professional advisors.

As CFO, s/he will be responsible for creating financial alignment between employees, partners and investors. S/he will manage its Finance function and optimise the services it provides across the group. S/he will also set out, implement and monitor its approach to reporting, ensuring accountability from key managers, including developing KPIs and metrics, and performance-based incentives.

The CFO will also oversee the efficient and effective use of capital across the group, and ensure all Board processes run smoothly and efficiently.

Fundamental to its success is that it operates at the highest level of professionalism and integrity. As a core member of the senior management team, the CFO will be expected to promulgate the Company’s values, and drive accountability across the different parts of the business.


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Financial Management, Control and Reporting
  • • Maintain strategic oversight of finance, including balance sheet management, capital deployment, managing the overall cost base, carrying out cost analysis.
  • • Manage the finance function (including IT) and its provision of services to the group.
  • • Review risks to the business and develop ways to mitigate risk, embracing risk in a controlled and well thought through manner.
  • • Maintain relationships with bankers, pension, legal and tax advisors, auditors.
  • • Prepare and present management and financial reports as needed.
  • • Keep abreast of relevant financial developments by networking with industry and functional professionals.
  • • Ensure all Board processes run smoothly.
  • Treasury, Financing and Tax
  • • Oversee cashflow planning and ensure availability of funds as needed.
  • • managing cash and the actively driving debtors/creditors of the business to maximise cashflow.
  • • Oversee cash, investment and asset management.
  • • Work with its advisors to ensure the provision of commercial, structuring and tax advice as needed on specific initiatives.
  • • Work with its specialist tax and legal advisors to ensure tax planning and execution are optimised to meet the needs of the Group.
  • Financial Planning and Analysis
  • • Working with the CEO, develop an appropriate financial policy and reporting framework, including key performance indicators and metrics (individual, company, shareholder).
  • • Develop and monitor financial business plans, budgets and forecasts.
  • • Establish criteria and mechanisms for the optimal deployment of capital, the approach to financial structuring and leveraging, and when/how to bring in third party capital, both equity and debt.
  • Investment and Commercial Management
  • • Work with the CEO and Board to maximise opportunities for value creation in line with the vision and strategy.
  • • Work with the CEO/advisors to evaluate deals/investments, including possible EXIT scenarios, capital requirements, and approaches for exit execution.
  • • Provide active advice, guidance and expertise to the group.
  • • Oversee key commercial contracts with tenants and partners, including all intellectual property.
  • General Management
  • • Act as a core member of senior management team.
  • • Protect and enhance the company’s reputation, ensuring that the organisation is presented in an appropriate and professional manner to stakeholders.
  • • Act as an advocate and ambassador in seeking various opportunities to expand and promote awareness of the organization.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate should have the following experience and qualifications:

• Excellent technical and strategic skills, and an understanding of financial dynamics, with the ability to optimise various commercial opportunities.

• Track record of senior strategic and commercial leadership, with evidence of successfully delivering financial support.

• Experience of establishing effective performance measures and a performance culture that develops and motivates individual and teams.

• Experience of corporate finance, M&A, raising funds from investors, risk management.

• Excellent verbal and written skills and ability to communicate concisely and effectively to internal and external audiences.

• Flexibility and good organisation skills, with an appropriate attention to detail and follow through, willing to get their ‘hands dirty’ when required.

• Track record of achieving concrete results against goals and objectives.

• Energy, enthusiasm and a ‘can-do’ attitude.

• Creativity and openness to ideas.

• Ability to adjust quickly to changing priorities and conditions, and cope effectively with complexity and change.

• A strong sense of values – including integrity, diplomacy, sensitivity, and tolerance.
